NOTES ON FIELD TRIPS TO WILPATTU NATIONAL PARK

  • Wilpattu National Park 12th -13th  November 2011

      At Anawila Bungalow with my wife Dilki, my parents Padmini & Solomon Gunawardena, brother Kishan and his wife Anna and daughter Nimaya.
      Spotted Deer at most villus.

  • Wilpattu National Park 29th -30th October 2011

      There were no leopard sightings on both days.  There were Sambar, Barking Deer & Spotted Deer.

  • Wilpattu National Park 10th -13th September 2011

      Three days were spent at the Panikkar Villu Bungalow with the committee of the Ceylon Bird Club, which included Nanda Senanayake, Dr. Pathmanath Samaraweera, Niran Caldera, Deepal Warakagoda & non-committee member Uditha Hettige.
      03.45pm:  1 Leopard seen between Menikrala Uraniya and Ilanda Motai.
      1 male elephant at Panikkar Villu and Alam Villu.
      4 Golden Jackals at Panikkar Villu.
      Many Spotted Deer & 4 Sambar.
      On the 13th at 10.45am:  A herd of 15 elephants came and drank at Panikkar Villu while we watched and photographed from the bungalow.
