29th October 2017 at 8.20am one Leopard at Ibba Wala. N08.39524, E 080.05643.
As we finished having our sandwiches a Red-wattled Lapwing flew up with its characteristic alarm call announcing the presence of danger. Shortly thereafter a Jungle Fowl made its alarm call. I pulled up the vehicle to see a fine young leopard at Ibba Wala. It was lying down on the floor and with the arrival of another vehicle stood up and moved in to the forest. Later having examined its spot pattern I realized that I had received images of this leopard from a few photographers who contribute to my study and that I have listed it as Ibba Wala Leopard 2 under Leopards of Wilpattu – Guest section. It is a male cub and I estimated its age to be around 10- 12 months. I was very pleased to have got a new leopard and named it Ibba Wala Male 2 (IWMC 2). (With guide Sampath Jayawardena)
