This small dragonfly fly belongs to the Libellulidae family commonly referred to as “Chasers” and is found to be most common in the central and southwestern parts of the island. This interesting dragonfly with a unique trumpet shaped abdomen is widespread in Asia and is found throughout the Indian subcontinent, Japan, Philippines and Indonesia.
The conservation status of this species is regarded as “Least Concerned” (National Red List 2012).
This is a species protected under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance as amended by Act No. 22 of 2009.
This species if found close to most waterbodies in Wilpattu from Modaragam Aru to Kala Oya. It is common in and around pools of water and paddy fields in Ragama, Holambalagama and Hunuwilagama close to the park entrance.
