This is an indigenous species that is found in dry lowland forests. Other than Sri Lanka this species is native to India, Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Laos.
The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned (National Red list 2012).
This is a small tree that grows to about 12 meters in height that can be found in the understory of dry lowland forests.
This is a wide spread species in Wilpattu. The true beauty of this species is reflected during the fruiting season from September to November where the trees become covered with tiny fruits of green yellow brown and red. I have observed White-browed Bulbuls and Red-vented bulbuls feeding on these fruits.
