This is one of our most common dragonfly fly species found throughout the country from the lowlands to the mid hills except for the highest hilly areas. The Blue Percher belongs to the Libellulidae family commonly referred to as “Chasers” and globally it is found in India, UAE, Oman, China, Maldives and south to New Guinea and Australia.
The conservation status of this species is regarded as “Least Concerned” (National Red List 2012).
This is a species protected under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance as amended by Act No. 22 of 2009.
This is a common species found throughout the park. I have photographed it at Kaali Villu and at Eluwankulama.
