This rattlepod species is widespread throughout the world. In Asia it is found in Bangaldesh, China, Cambodia, India, Sri Lanka, laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Nepal, Phillipines, Thailand and Viet Nam. It is also found in North & South America, Africa and Australia.
The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned. (National List 2012).
This species is common in the lowlands of both dry and wet zones of the country. The females of a species of butterfly known as the Pea Blue lays its eggs on the tender leaves of this species.
In Wilpattu this species can be found in most localities. I have observed flowers in during the months of June, November and December.
