This is a common migrant seen through out the country during the season. This species breeds in temperate Asia and Eastern Europe. It is a common migrant in Other than Sri Lanka it is a common migrant to India and Bangladesh.
The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned (IUCN Red List).
Blyth’s Reed Warbler is a species protected under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance as amended by Act No. 22 of 2009.
I have seen this species throughout the country wherever there is even a small patch of vegetation or marshland. It is even found in my home garden at Colombo 8 from October to March during most years.
This is a very common bird in Wilpattu but a very difficult species to observe and even more difficult to photograph during game drives due to its skulking habits.
