This is a common species, which is also found in India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Malaysia.
The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned (National Red List 2012).
This is a species protected under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance as amended by Act No. 22 of 2009.
These little skinks are commonly found throughout the country in rocky habitats except for the highest hills. I have seen this species at many locations including Udawalawa, Yala, Wasgomuwa and Kumana National parks as well as at Monaragala, Koslanda, Wellawaya and Anuradapura.
In Wilpattu these skinks can be seen at Kimbula Ketu Gala, Ochchapu Kallu and Galge Viharaya.
