This is a very common species found from the lowlands up to an altitude of 2000 meters from sea level. Other than in Sri Lanka it is also common in India.
The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned (National Red List 2012) This common shrub is found along roads, forested areas, grasslands and most open areas.
The chopped leaves of this species are used in Ayurveda medicine to treat Asthma, Coughs, Rheumatism, Ophthalmia and eruptions of the skin.
In Wilpattu I have observed the tiny flowers of this species throughout the year. This species can be seen throughout the park.
