I have seen these flowers all year round at many localities in both in the wet and dry zones such as marshlands, forested areas as well as sandy open areas. It is common in all our low country national parks.

This plant is held in high esteem in traditional Ayurveda medicine in Sri Lanka and India for its medicinal and spiritual value. The roots and stem is used to treat dysentery and depression. The leaves are used to treat asthma and mental disturbances.

In Wilpattu these flowers can be seen throughout the year at most open areas.
