This is a species protected under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance as amended by Act No. 22 of 2009.

I have seen this species at many locations in the country including Yala, Kumana, Udawalawa and Lunugamvehera National Parks. I have not observed it in the Mannar Island or the Jaffna Peninsular.

This is a nocturnal species that can be commonly seen in houses close to forested areas.

In Wilpattu I have seen them at Hunuwilagama, Panikkar Villu and at Tala Wila.
