This is a location between Panikkar Villu and Tala Wila. The sand patch and the water hole are both good for leopards. The name is said to have derived from the Tamil language meaning where the tusker kneeled down.
Driving from Panikkar Villu the sand patch is on the left. During early mornings and evenings it is worth exploring this locality carefully if you are interested in leopards. About 100 meters from the sand patch towards Tala Wila is the water hole. During the dry season from late August to September this water hole is visited by throughout the day by many species of Mammals including Leopards, Barking Deer, Wild Boar and Ruddy Mongoose. Many species of birds would also visit the water hole continuously throughout the day.
This is the locality where I observed KSPMC 1 and KSPMC 2 for the first time in September 2012and I have photographed both these leopards on different dates on the culvert between the sand patch and the water hole.
The Indian Three-toed Kingfisher is a species that can some times be seen at this location during the dry season.
After the rains by January and February the area is transformed in to lush green moist habitat. The water hole will be covered with a health growth of water lilies and the surrounding areas by carpets of Pipeworts (Kok Mota) and studded with the pretty flowers of Ceylon Osbekia.
