This is a common migrant species that visits forests and well-wooded gardens throughout the country from the highest hills to the seashore. Breeding in central China and the Himalayas, it winters in Western Ghats and Sri Lanka.
The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned (IUCN Red List).
This species is protected under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance as amended by Act No. 22 of 2009.
This bird is heard more often than seen in all forested areas of the country during the migrant season. Its three note-ascending whistle is a very pleasant unmistakable call of which some times only the note is made. I have seen this species throughout the country. Unlike the Green Leaf Warbler, which can be found even in well-wooded gardens, this species appears to prefer more densely forested areas as its winter quarters.
This is a very common species at Wilpattu and can be seen throughout the park.
