This is a small tree species that is also found in countries of peninsula India.

The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned. (National List 2012).

I have seen this species in most dry zone national parks and scrub jungle areas.

In Wilpattu the Kapukinissa will bloom during the month of December creating a breath taking wild flower spectacle. Most trees will be full of the large pink flowers decorating the forest. Even though this species is common inside the park and along the Eluwankulama - Mollikulam road they are rarely seen in the villages around Hunuwilagama.

During the month of December – January these flowers can be seen at most of the main villus.
