Common Name : Small Pore Mushrooms     -       Scientific Name : Microporus sp.
Wilpattu
Wilpattu

The members of this genus belong to Polyporaceae and has a widespread distribution in the tropical regions of the world. Eleven species of this genus have been recognized so far. These mushrooms are always found on decaying logs and even on slender decaying sticks. The mature mushrooms have a thin funnel shaped caps with concentric zone patterns on the upper sides. They can be of different shapes and are connected to their wooden host by a yellow-footed stem.

In Wilpattu these mushrooms emerge during the month of December. I have observed them between Kokkare Villu and Kuruttupandi Villu.
