This dragonfly with long spines on its legs belongs to the Libellulidae family commonly referred to as “Chasers” and frequents the water bodies and streams of the lowlands. It is widespread in many Asian countries.

The conservation status of this species is regarded as “Near Threatened” (National Red List 2012).

This is a species protected under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance as amended by Act No. 22 of 2009.

I have seen this species at many water bodies in and around Wilpattu.
