This is a species that is native to Tropical Asia from India to Sri Lanka, China, Indonesia, Tropical Africa, South Africa and Madagascar.
The conservation status of this species is regarded as Near Threatened.
(National List 2012).
This is found in shady forested area of the dry lowlands. The flowers emit a very pleasant fragrance.
In Wilpattu I have only see this species between Kanjuran Villu and Kali Villu. The flowers were observed during the month of September.
