This is a species that is found through out South East Asia. Other than in Sri Lanka it is also recorded from India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, China, Thailand and Viet Nam.
The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned.

It is common in most moist habitat such as paddy fields, near water bodies and marshes. I have seen these tiny flowers in bloom throughout the year in both the wet zone and he dry zone and the lower hills up to about 100 meters in altitude.
Three beautiful species of butterflies known as the Blue Pansy, Grey Pansy and the Peacock Pansy lay their eggs on this species and their caterpillars will feed on the leaves. I have observed all these species at Wilpattu.
It is a very common species in Wilpattu and can be seen near most water bodies. The flowers can be seen throughout the year.
