This is a species found through out the country up to about mid hills. Other than Sri Lanka it also occurs in southern India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh.
I have seen this species at Minneriya, Avissawella, Udawalawa and at Yala national parks.
This is a non - venomous species that becomes tame quite quickly. It is usually less aggressive than most other species of snakes.
On the 28th October 2017 around 8.10pm I rescued a snake of this species from a house at Radagama, a village bordering the park.
