The mushrooms of this genus are placed in Agaricaceae family. It is estimated that there are 55 species in this genus, and they are found throughout the temperate regions of the world. Some of these species have been used in various homeopathic medicinal preparations.
In Wilpattu I have observed this species at Kokkare Villu, Kuruttupandi Villu, Nelum Wila and between Percy Bandi Wewa and Paaluwilandawa junction during the month of April and November.
