This medium sized dragonfly has a habit of gathering in large groups and fluttering over forest patches close to water bodies. It belongs to the Libellulidae family commonly referred to as “Chasers”. The Variegate Flutterer is common throughout the lowlands. It’s found in many Asian countries. The nominate race is confined to Sri Lanka India, China, Nepal, Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam.

The conservation status of this species is regarded as “Least Concerned” (National Red List 2012).

This is a species protected under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance as amended by Act No. 22 of 2009.

This is a very common species found at most water bodies in the park and water logged areas and often seen fluttering in groups close to such habitat.
