This is a shrub that is native to Africa, India, Sri Lanka and Java. It is a common species found in the low country dry zone forests and scrublands.
The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned. (National List 2012).
Two species of butterflies known as the Common Sailor and the Tricolor Pied Flat lay their eggs on the leaves of this species.
This species is common at most localities in Wilpattu. I photographed the flowers during the month of March at Habawewa.
